Straight Talk From the President

Dave ScepanskiThe Difference is You

With your help and support, ASSIST has grown into the largest and most influential advocate association for Texas security professionals. It is only through your continued involvement that this success can continue. The cornerstone of ASSIST's strength is its ability to unite many security professionals to achieve collectively what would be impossible to do individually. Remember- strength in numbers. We urge you to become involved in ASSIST.

Membership Is Everyone's Responsibility
Somewhere along the road, some security businesses practiced the wrong concept and thought that it was only necessary to sign-up one staffer as an ASSIST member. That may be true as far as joining the Safety Group. However, there is no reason why your company or organization cannot have more ASSIST members among its ranks, thereby increasing revenues, improving your profitability, accelerating our cash flow, and enhancing the quality of membership services.

Associates
All Texas security professionals can benefit from an ASSIST membership- whether you are the head of a security or investigation firm or a security officer on the frontlines. For eligible security officers, an Associate Employee ASSIST Membership offers a $10,000 death and dismemberment policy, an identification pocket card, and access to the ASSIST Web Site so you can keep up with valuable information regarding the security profession; the annual cost for this membership is $25.00. This valuable resource also highlights recent news about security officers across the Lone Star State and nation whose on-the-job dedication and bravery has helped save lives and stop crime.

No Wallflowers Allowed
For those of you who are still on the fence about membership, it's time to join and not just stand in the background and let someone else do the work or make important decisions on issues that affect you.

Becoming involved in ASSIST shows everyone your pride in your profession. You owe it to yourself, your company, and your colleagues to make our profession the best it can be. Take the time out and call me at (832) 274-1079. Recent state legislation signed into law during the previous four years- and directly affecting security professionals like you- was passed thanks to ASSIST's lobbying efforts and contacts in state government. You Can make a difference.

ASSIST Messenger - News At Its Best
The Assist Messenger is delivered to each B & C Licensed security or investigations agency in Texas to provide updated information on events and developments in our profession. ASSIST provides this quarterly information tool to you as a working resource. Those of you who do not read it and just throw it away are missing an opportunity to tap into a wealth of knowledge provided by the individuals who take time out of their schedules to bring you each issue.

Calling All Technophobes
I want to take this opportunity to reach out to those of you who need to come into the 21st Century. Or you're more adept at sending a smoke signal than an attachment. Don't risk being left behind with the industrial dinosaurs. Too many of you are not taking advantage of the Internet, E-mail, and the World Wide Web and you're missing out.

E-mail is no longer the wave of the future. The wave is here and it is a whopper. E-mail allows you to send documents, pictures, files, and data quickly and easily. It is an indispensable tool for the business owner who wants to foster good customer relations. It is a quick, inexpensive, and powerful way to communicate with potential clients and stay in touch with existing clients.

If you haven't jumped on the Information Highway bandwagon yet, you're also missing out on the ASSIST online site- www.assisttexas.org. It's a service we provide to every member and potential member to keep you up-to-date on daily events that affect your profession. "Welcome to the future"
