RIO GRANDE VALLEY REGION
Jaime Ochoa - President
A Rio Grande Valley ASSIST shooting tournament is scheduled for June at the San Juan Police Department Police Range. Security officers and security professionals are encouraged to participate in our annual shooting tournament. Funds raised will go towards the fallen officers fund. RGV ASSIST extends a sincere thanks to San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez for allowing us access to the police range once again. Call my office for more details.
Special acknowledgement and gratitude go out to Attorney Frank E. Perez, Frank E. Perez and Associates, for donating his parking lot for an RGV ASSIST fundraiser. This generous donation allowed us to procure more than $4,000 once again, which will enable this association to develop professional training and provide charitable donations to the community as well. During these challenging economic times, it is especially noteworthy and encouraging to be able to count on professionals such as Frank who are always ready and willing to give back to the community.
In addition, special thanks go out to American Investigations & Security International SRT and Valley Wide Security SORT volunteers for this fundraiser.
The RGV ASSIST Region is hosting the 2011 ASSIST Convention in Brownsville, which will be the citys first time to host an ASSIST convention. The convention site will be the Holiday Inn at 3777 North Expressway 77, Brownsville, Texas 78520, 956-547-1500. Mark your calendars and make your reservations. The event takes place Sept 28 to Oct. 1. We have contracted Valley Inn Country Club for the golf tournament and we have made arrangements with Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia to use the Brownsville Police range for our shooting tournament, which will be an IDPA style match.
Please e-mail me if you have any questions about the match and I will send you an explanation of the rules. Participants for the shooting tournament should register ASAP. Also, call or e-mail your shirt size so orders can be placed and will be available on the day of the tournament. We, the RGV ASSIST board, are diligently working to make the 2011 ASSIST Convention yet another valuable and enjoyable experience.
We had our RGV ASSIST meeting May 4 and our guest speaker was Alan Trevino who has announced he is interested in running for ASSIST state president. I took the opportunity to officially nominate him for this position with Robert Garza a nominating committee member. I fully endorse Alan Trevino for ASSIST state president and encourage every member to support him. I believe he will continue leading us in the right direction.
An invitation is extended to interested personnel who would like to attend our next RGV ASSIST meeting. The schedule for the rest of the year is Aug. 3 and Nov. 2, 11:30 a.m., at the Holiday Inn, 3777 North Expressway 77, Brownsville, 956-547-1500.
