MIKE JACKSON
Texas State Senator

Elected to the Texas Senate in 1998, Mike Jackson represents Texans in portions of Harris, Brazoria and Galveston Counties. He is the current chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Agriculture, serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee and is a member of the Senate Business and Commerce, Government Organization and Nominations Committees. Senator Jackson is a senior member of the Sunset Advisory Committee and was recently appointed by Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst to the Energy and Environment Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference.

Prior to the 78th Legislative Session, Mike served as Chairman of the Senate Business and Commerce Subcommittee on Insurance Rate Regulation. Using the knowledge he gained during this chairmanship, he authored Senate Bill 14, a comprehensive new law that will help provide affordable insurance for the people of Texas, while fostering a competitive environment and providing consumer choice. After the 78th Session, Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst appointed Senator Jackson to the Property and Casualty Insurance Legislative Oversight Committee.

Recent awards include the Turf Irrigators Association, "Legislator of the Year 2003 Award," and an award from the Texas Association of Business for "maintaining a stellar pro-business, pro-Texas voting record during the 78th legislative session." Mike is also on the board of directors of the Texas Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus and was recently named an honorary member of Associated Security Services and Investigators of the State of Texas.

Nominated in 1993 and 1995, Senator Jackson is a 1997 and 1999 recipient of the “Leaders of Excellence” award, presented by the Free Market Political Action Committee. In 1999 the same organization awarded him the "Texas Ten Award," for scoring in the top ten percent of the most conservative state senators in Texas during the 76th Legislative Session. In 1999 he was awarded the Eagle Forum "Freedom and Family Award" in recognition of his conservative voting record.

First elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1988, Senator Jackson served five terms as State Representative of House District 129. During his tenure in the House, he served as Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Environmental Regulation and on the House Committees on Land and Resource Management, Energy Resources, Business and Industry, Liquor Regulation, and Historical and Cultural Resources.

An active community member, Mike belongs to many Chambers of Commerce in Senate District 11, including Alvin-Manvel, Angleton, Brazosport, Clear Lake Area, Deer Park, Friendswood, Galveston, La Porte-Bayshore, League City, North Galveston County, Pasadena, Pearland, South Belt-Ellington, and Texas City-La Marque. He is also a member of the Deer Park Community Advisory Council.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mike attended Louisiana Tech and Louisiana State Universities. He is the President of Force Corporation, his family’s La Porte-based industrial construction and maintenance company, and is a 30-year veteran of the construction industry.

Mike, his wife Vickie, and their children, Vic and Michelle, reside in Shoreacres and are members of La Porte United Methodist Church.
