Our last ASSIST meeting was held May 10 at the ARAMCO Services Building in Houston. We did not have a guest speaker as this was only a general ASSIST business meeting to discuss the upcoming ASSIST 7th Annual Fallen Officer Fundraiser. All committees gave a status reports and all lights were green.

On April 20 during the early morning hours one of our long-time ASSIST company members had an officer killed while answering an alarm call in Fort Bend County. The officer, Fidel Sanchez III, was a 26 year old commissioned officer married with three children. The visitation was held April 25 and the funeral was held April 26. The visitation and funeral was attended by numerous security officers from various security companies including Michael McGregor, Fallen Officer Fund director from Dallas, including state ASSIST officers and many Houston area ASSIST regional officers and members. We are proud to say that our fund was able to help the family in their time of need with the funeral and living expenses.

May 7 was the date for our annual Fallen Officer Fundraiser which was well attended and very successful, which I credit to our faithful sponsor such as Charlieï¿½s House Virgie Gribble aka ï¿½Momï¿½ who has been so generous and provides the facility for this event. We also have our DJ Gerardo Martinez, aka ï¿½A.L.I.E.N.ï¿½ who provides the music and the sound system for our live auction. Another sponsor who has been here every year is All for Jumping Moonwalks John David Camarillo who furnishes the tables, chairs, snow cone machine, moonwalk and the dunking booth. Last, but not least, I also want to thank my good friend and one of the best barbecue cooks in the state, J.P. Pausewang who is my long-time cooking buddy. For several years I have been trying to be as good as him and he keeps telling me I still have a lot to learn and I believe him.

Special thanks to all the companies and individuals who either made donations or came out to participate. Without all of the above we would not be able to help those families who have lost a family member in the line of duty.

As chairman of the event and on behalf of the ASSIST Gulf Coast Region, we thank all of them and look forward to their continued support. May God bless all of you.

Our next ASSIST meeting will be on June 14, 2011 at a location to be named. We are now looking for a new location to have our monthly meeting.
