ASSIST
Convention 2008 "Taking The Mystery Out Of Security"
October 2nd4th, 2008 (ThuSat)
Omni Houston
Westside
13210 Katy Freeway,
Houston TX
Our 2008 annual
convention is almost upon us!
The Gulf Coast Region is hosting this spectacular event, and has put
together quite a show for all!
This years theme of Taking the Mystery Out of Security goes
along with our marquee event, a Celebrity Mystery Dinner Theater
Oct. 2. This event will coincide with the Presidential Gala, and
will feature the likes of Fran Drescher (The Nanny), Sylvester
Stallone, Marilyn Monroe, and possibly even the King himself, Elvis
Presley! If you miss everything else, dont miss this! Individuals
will be singled out as key players suspects, victims, and one
lucky fan will be the culprit! Only Susan Griswold and I will know
until the dinner, and we aint tellin!
We have lined up a myriad of continuing education speakers this
year. Representatives from the Harris County District Attorneys
Office will be discussing securitys role in law enforcement.
Attorneys Ken Scott and Carlos Peniche will be on hand to talk about
office liability and contract language. I myself will be giving a
class on selling security, from finding the prospect to closing the
deal. We have 10 other outstanding classes for you attend sign
up for as many as you can!
Our annual golf tournament will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, at the
Jersey Meadow Golf Club in Jersey Village. A special thanks to Jim
Shrider of Twin City Security for helping design the tournament.
Transportation to and from the tournament will be provided by the
Gulf Coast Region, as well as club transport. Jersey Meadow is a
well-maintained, par 71 course with plenty of scenery and long
fairways. The unofficial tournament record is 9 under par;
will your team have what it takes to break it? Oh, and we will be
reviving a past favorite this year. First-, second- and third-place
teams will receive trophies, and back by popular demand: the
Worst Golfer Award! Be sure to be there when this ones
handed out its a riot!
Our Top Gun competition will also be Oct. 1. Jeff Moore will oversee
this prestigious shoot, to be held at the American Shooting Center
in southwest Houston. Transportation is provided; you will need to
provide your own firearm and ammunition. Top shooters will receive
trophies, admiration from our membership and likely a few job offers
as well!
Our outstanding vendor members will exhibit their wares throughout
the convention. We have added several products and services that
will be of great value to each of us in our business days. Any
vendor wishing to have a space in our convention should contact me
right away; space is going fast.
For the ladies, a trip to the Galleria, Houstons premiere mall,
will take place Oct. 2. The Galleria hosts the hottest names in
retail: Nordstrom, Macys, Saks 5th Avenue and more! Sodeth
Galloway, my wife, will lead the way. So grab your husbands
wallets, gals, you wont regret it! (Though I probably will!)
The now world-famous ASSIST Hospitality Suite will be open Thursday
through Saturday. We are currently seeking sponsors for nights at
the Hospitality Suite; any interested parties should contact me
right away.
To register online, visit www.assisttexas.org. All major credit
cards are accepted. For travel arrangements to and from Houston
Hobby Airport and George Bush International Airport, please contact
Jeff Moore at [email protected].
Shuttle service will be provided Wednesday through Saturday.
On a related note, we are currently seeking nominations for Security
Officer of the Year. Anyone interested in nominating one of their
officers should e-mail the officers name and a description of why
they should receive this honor to Ruben Amaya at [email protected].
For any further questions regarding the ASSIST 2008 Annual
Convention, please e-mail me at [email protected],
