The President's Message
(Bob Burt) We have many members who step up to the plate, attend local regional meetings and get involved. We have many members who contribute in other ways. It all means we are doing the right thing. We are heading in the right direction and success will continue as a result of all of our hard work.

82nd Legislative Session & Other Points of Interest
(Walt Roberts) MY FRIENDS, I WANT TO THANK the members who showed up and made our Legislative Day one of the most productive. Each session these improve. Our biggest problem is that we were competing for parking spaces with South by Southwest and Teachers day at the capital.

Gov. Perry Appoints Four to Texas PSB
AUSTIN - Govenor Rick Perry has appointed four members to the Texas Private Security Board. The board licenses private investigation, security guard, burglar alarm, courier, armored car and access control companies. In addition, it approves training schools for individuals employed by these companies.

Making Changes - the New Face of Regulation
(Renearl Bowie) CHANGE IS OFTEN DEFINED as to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone. This perhaps best describes the Regulatory Services Division and the former Private Security Bureau.

Remembering The Fallen - Security Officers Fidel Sanchez & Robert St. Clair
Tribute to Security Officer Fidel Sanchez III of Professional Patrol and Guard, and Security Officer Robert Dale St. Clair of Merchants Industrial Security.

EEOC Issues Final Regulations Implementing ADAAA
(Dean Schaner) The ADAAA makes it easier for people to establish that they are protected by the ADA and overturns holdings in several well-known Supreme Court decisions, which had previously narrowed the disability definition.

Fighting a Stereotype with a Clich
(Deena Roberts) I stand behind ASSIST and other organizations that lift the heads and brush off the shoulders of the security industry. By even one example, by one crossed path, by one single encounter, a persons perspective can be altered in a positive or a negative way.

TX Wins Site Selection Magazine's 2010 Governor's Cup
TEXAS HAS WON SITE SELECTION MAGAZINES Governors Cup for 2010, which is awarded annually to the state with the most new and expanded corporate facilities announced over the year.

Gov. Perry: Strong Families & Small Businesses Keep TX on Right Track
GOV. RICK PERRY TODAY PLEDGED to continue strengthening the jobs climate that has allowed Texas families and small businesses to thrive by keeping taxes low, and discussed the importance of preserving the states Rainy Day Fund. The governor spoke at Kel-Lac Uniforms Inc., which provides uniforms for law enforcement agencies and American military troops.

Entering into 'Risky' Contracts
(Josh Ring) AT THE END OF THE DAY, neither your insurance broker nor your carrier is on the front-lines working to keep their security company in business. It is up to each individual company owner to decide what risks they are willing to take and accept the potential consequences of those choices.

Protecting the Super Rich a Whole Different Deal
MOST OF US PROTECT normal people and/or property. What about the super rich? Thats a whole different deal. The rich really are different than you and me especially with their security needs.

Legislation Help for Business
(Aleda Sebenick) If we truly mean to grow our economy by creating jobs and thus reducing our government deficits, then helping companies eliminate the wasteful expenditures caused by bad laws and abusive lawsuits is a good start.

Layman's Guide to Collecting a Bad Account
(Walt Roberts) SOME OF YOU KNOW I have been around a while, with that in mind I will give you some of my techniques to collecting a bad account.

E-Verify: A Great Concept, Poor Application
(Bob Burt) The concept was really simple. Compare data submitted by a prospective employee against a government database to see if the data matches. If it matches success, he can work. If it doesnt match, he cant. Really simpleand foolproof. Right? Nope.

GUARD LEGACY - Tradition of Service
(Mark Smith) IN THE NEXT FEW ISSUES you will be treated to the story of my familys business. It contains all the elements of a bestseller or a first-run movie: adventure, romance, wartime drama and business intrigue. Ideas and inventions that we now take for granted began here. So buckle up for a wild ride.

Rules & Regs: RULE 35.39 UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
Keeping You Up-To-Speed

The LAST Word
(Bob Burt) The strides we have made with advancing technology have been simply amazing. I would not want to go backwards but I would like to see a little more thought on consequences as we go forward.
