ASSIST Leads the Way
A First for the State of Texas
With the cooperation and coordination of ASSIST State President, Vice President Dave Parker, Cliff Grumbles, Manager of Texas Board of Private Security I have made a dream come true.
Our new educational program is going to make a tremendous impact to our security professionals in Texas. The program is going to benefit the following areas.
1. SECURITY ACADEMYS: for the first time in Texas, security academies will be officially articulated to a higher college educational level. Upon completion of the academys, the student(s) will receive a full accredited certificate from Texas state technical college in
"SECURITY & SPECIAL OFFICERS PLUS 4.8CEU's."
We will administrate this process as follows: the students will complete their regular 30 hour training as required by Texas Board of Private Security. The same syllabus used at the academy we will be matched and articulated as a college course with the academy. This is the process we are going to articulate by agreement. As soon as the student(s) register to the level iii academy, the director of the academy or instructor will log into the assist website where he/she will have a link to my email so that the director can provide me with the proper information of the student(s) so that the students may receive the certificate from TSTC. The security academys will also benefit by increasing the amount of students enrolled in their schools. Many young students will take the opportunity to earn a skill, plus a college certificate.
2. HIGHER EMPLOYMENT: the purpose of this program is to provide professional security employment opportunities. Employers will gain educated Texas security officers in comparison with the less educated and untrained competitors. Employers know that officers with college education and skills in customer service orientation are more productive. Companies with in-house security services will also benefit by employing our Texas security professional because of the high level of educational skills and knowledge. Employers may also choose to join forces and gain assistance by state agencies such as Texas work-force to pay employee salaries (on the job training) when hiring these professionally educated security officers.
3. PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS: Other professional associations such as ASIS may join forces with Texas board of private security and assist. This is the kind of opportunity for every state and organization that is only dreamed about in improving the profession of security officers.
4. COMMISSION & NON-COMMISSION OFFICERS: Every commissioned officer in Texas will have the opportunity to apply for this program. The officer(s) must provide a copy of the level iii certificate or a copy of their commission id so that the certificate from TSTC can be provided to the officer. The non-commission officers will also be given the same opportunity. They must register to complete level iii and upon completion of the academy, the officer(s) will receive the certificate from our community college.
5. TUITION: the security officer academies (only from Texas) will receive this opportunity at zero tuition to the students.
6. There are many more benefits to be included. I am planning on writing a book (but this may take me a long time).
Sincerely,
Professor Frank Torres, MS
