ASSIST Chapter Meetings Are Important For Everyone

Without a doubt, the most important educational venue is the local chapter meeting. Sure, we learn a lot at conventions and seminars, but how often are they available? Our newsletter provides excellent information but it, too, is limited in timely delivery of what we need to know. Chapter meetings are held frequently and include time relevant information as well as local, state, and national security topics. In addition, chapter meetings provide for interaction and communication at the grass roots level so that positive avenues of direction may be taken.

Who needs this information? Well.everyone, not just members. The local chapter meeting is the information source for non-members, folks with letters of authority and even law enforcement. In fact, where else would law enforcement officers learn so much about the professional security officer? Where else would non-members find out, on a timely basis, what they have to do to be in compliance with state laws and board rules that govern the way they do conduct their business.

We have a golden opportunity to include in our educational circle all of those folks who really would be helped by learning more about professional private security. It is at the chapter meeting level that misconceptions can be eliminated and positive relationships can be established and maintained. Knowledge is power and if we all have that same knowledge, we can all work toward common goals. Invite someone to your next chapter meeting and share the knowledge that both of you bring to the meeting.

Bob Burt
Executive Vice President
