Since 1992, ASSIST has been the Lone Star State�s leading advocate and watchdog for the needs of security and investigation professionals just like you. Together, the members of ASSIST and our paid lobbyist we have impacted key legislation affecting the security profession. In 2003 alone, Texas Governor Rick Perry signed three ASSIST bills into law. These bills (HB 565, 1661, and 1769) provide tougher penalties for assaulting security officers, allow commissioned and trained security officers to carry the same amount of pepper spray as a police officer, and provide more venues for continuing education.
