Texas Licensed Training Issues
People who are properly trained are more likely to get the job done right the first time.

At some time or another, as we manage our security/investigation/alarm-oriented businesses or agencies, all of us find ourselves in the role of trainer/educator/mentor. As such, it is our responsibility to supplement our base of Texas Commission on Private Security (TCPS) compliant orientations and programs with offerings from industrial and personal development training. Much could be gained from offering continuing education courses in such topics as business and government security, loss prevention, and managing emergencies.

As trainers and educators, our aim should be to maximize training outcomes to enable participants to continually improve their performance, contribution, competitiveness, and career prospects. Courses delivered should also raise the level of competency among managers, supervisors, security officers, and others to improving their workforce skills. A quality trainer adds the benefit of personal experience and industry respect to the training course carried out. We should strive to deliver relevant, interesting, and interactive material so that participants gain the maximum benefit and can readily apply the concepts learned.

I applaud the efforts of the TCPS to focus a large part of their licensee educational material on compliance issues and on the essentials of being a proper representative of our industry. Basic, orientation, and continuing education training will continue to be a high priority. Some of you may find yourselves barely having enough time to run your operation without considering some of the ideas suggested for training. For that, I respond with a strong challenge that you place high expectations on those of us in the training business to deliver a quality product not only in our own facilities, but also to be mobile and take those programs to some of our smaller Texas towns and communities which could also benefit from such education.
