Nuclear Facility Security Force In the Works

The U.S. Senate is considering a bill aimed at establishing a security force for nuclear power facilities.

The force would be charged with updating the security plans for nuclear power facilities, and conducting periodic inspections. The security plans are to address several potential threats, such as physical and biochemical terrorists threats, attacks by employees, suicide attacks, and arson.

The plans would also include guidance on the number of security officers at each facility, design of critical security systems, access control, perimeter security, fire protection barriers, and background checks for current and prospective employees.

The South Texas Nuclear Project, near the Texas Gulf Coast, would fall under this initiative.
