The Essence of Leadership
Timeless Leadership Principles in a Changing World
 Leadership is about knowing you�re not just doing things right - it�s about doing the right things. Effective leadership is not about control and command, titles or status. It�s not about finding blame or excuses. Leadership is about making a difference, creating and embracing positive change. It�s about getting the job done and eliminating processes that don�t contribute to overall corporate objectives. Leadership is about trust, coaching, educating, encouraging, enabling and empowering every employee. It�s about establishing and reinforcing core values, developing and pursuing a vision, and a focus on high-level challenges.
Realizing our vision is our objective
The essence of leadership requires vision. The vision is the basis of all plans and actions for the present and the future. Those who lead, at whatever level, must be the champions of vision.
Change is our opportunity
The essence of leadership is a willingness to change and adapt, become an agent of change, not a victim of change. Embrace change.
Improvement is our ambition
The essence of leadership is the ability to constantly improve what we do and how we do it. Improvement is about identifying and taking advantage of the opportunities of tomorrow as well as those of today. It requires the ability to see things as they are - to recognize the strengths and weaknesses, an imaginative view of the future.
Teamwork is our task
The essence of leadership is the ability to foster teamwork. Leaders ensure that their people operate in a clear framework with the support they need to be successful. Leaders coach rather than control.
Delivering results is our goal
The essence of leadership is the ability to create value and to deliver on our commitments. Leaders recognize success and failure and act accordingly. Effective leadership demands results. It demands that we are realistic, that we deliver on our promises and only make promises that we can keep.
