Convention 2007
El Paso, Texas
by Dave Scepanski
ASSIST Past President
As the private security industry constantly changes, it is critical that ASSIST and its members and non-members work collectively to meet those changes now and into the future. This years annual conference entitled Security on the Borders is a unique opportunity that brings together professional experts and private security companies to discuss issues facing the security officers, and security profession.
The conference also provides Friday access to a wide range of vendors who supply services and products that can help make your company run more efficiently. The venders services and supplies are the venue for todays security profession.
This years conference will cover General Continuing Expertise designed to protect the security profession and security officers and to bring you up to date Texas Private Security Bureau and Board Rules of Texas.
For the golfers Thursday we have lined up one of the most exciting golf courses in El Paso. You will have the honor of golfing at Fort Bliss, Texas, at the famous Underwood Sunset course. Thursday evening we have some of the best live entertainment Old El Pasos Wild West Show (Six Guns and Shady Lanes).
Friday Continuing Education and our Famous Legislative Luncheon this year with DPS Colonel Thomas Davis and Homeland Security Director Steve McGraw and senators and state representatives and Friday evening Presidents Gala and Saturday we end with Continuing Education and Saturday afternoon a trip to the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
For the first time ever we are having a Early Bird Registration From Jan. 1 thru June 30, 2007 members who register during the time period will be eligible for one drawing of $500 cash. The lucky ticket will be drawn by our Mayor John Cook at the welcome speech Friday morning (must be present to win). Also the price of the registration for the convention includes all events and hospitality rooms.
We also, for the first time ever, are inviting the organization members from the alarm, electronic access control, locksmith, tali to attend the convention at our members rate (members will be verified).
We have keynote speakers that are key representatives and experts on security on the border and homeland security. And as always, a conference highlight will be our annual Legislative Luncheon and Presidents Gala. See the registration from and schedule of events in this issue. You also may register on-line or download the form
on our website.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday our Hospitality room will be open with food drinks and here you will have the opportunity to meet our speakers, venders and be able to talk with members and non-members to exchange ideas and suggestions (where the real business is done).
As always, ASSISTs goal is to raise the standards and professionalism in our industry. Specific objectives include enforcing regulatory compliance by all security companies in the state and halting operations of illegal security companies and individuals.
We must continue to raise our level of professionalism through aggressive educational programs, by developing and implementing new security methodologies and techniques designed to advance services and provide improved protection for security officers.
Mark your calendars! We look forward to having a fantastic conference and to seeing you at the ASSIST Convention 2007 held at the Camino Real Hotel, El Paso, Texas, Oct, 4-6, 2007.
By getting involved and working together with all organizations licensed under the Texas Private Security Bureau and Board, we can continue to raise the standards and enhance the image of private security professionals. We must maintain and strengthen our strategic partnerships with government officials, the Texas Private Security Bureau Board, law enforcement agencies, and the professional educators of this state. This can be done by coming to our
Convention 2007.
Sincerely,
Dave Scepanski
