Security Officer of the Year

B
askin named ASSIST Officer of the Year for the state of Texas

A very special congratulations to S.O. James Baskin. He recently was honored at the ASSIST State Convention in March at the banquet at the Omni Hotel in Dallas, for winning the state Officer of the Year. The following are some of the excerpts from the speech given about him:

Texas Industrial Security recently received a letter from a public transportation company that reported an elderly lady was walking on their parking lot when she tripped and fell. The fall broke her wrist, causing a compound fracture. The bone was sticking out of her hand. According to the customer, no one knew what to do except Baskin. He took charge of the situation, started first aid to stop the bleeding, and comforted her. He stayed calm and helped the badly injured lady stay calm until the medics arrived. Her family was very thankful, and the customer was certainly impressed by Security Officer Baskins calm demeanor, compassion, and expertise.

This was not the first time Officer Baskin has come to the attention of management for his work. The month before, the same customer reported that an individual who had been previously barred from the site came onto the property acting drunk and threatening the passengers. Baskin kept the individual away from the passengers until the police arrived, and then helped the police subdue the individual.

The customer wrote, Officer Baskins courage and dedication to the safety and well being of passengers and employees goes above and beyond what is expected.

Last November the customer reported that a 14-year-old girl had run away from home. Her parents had put out flyers because she had fallen prey to an internet sexual predator. Baskin had studied the flyers and started watching all the people coming and going on the property. He found her, called the police, and she was rescued and sent back home. Her parents thanked Baskin profusely, saying that this could have been a tragedy instead of a happy ending.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, it created one of the most trying times for the bus station with all the evacuees going through. The station reported, At times it was a madhouse, and tempers ran short, but through all of this, S.O. Baskin remained calm and in control. Even with all of the unscheduled buses, he kept a can-do attitude to make sure everything was secure. When tempers flared, he took the time, to listen and help people out. The job that he did was above and beyond what is required of him.

We are very proud to have a man the caliber of Baskin working for Texas Industrial Security. His courtesy and helpfulness have often been commented on, he makes the travelers feel safe and secure, and he handles himself under pressure very well.

When Baskin walked up to receive his award, the room of more than 200 people gave him a standing ovation. Please join ASSIST in offering our most sincere congratulations to Security Officer James Baskin!
