More Services For You On TexasOnline

by Allen Martin
Senior Systems Analyst

As was announced in a previous article, the DPS Private Security Bureau (PSB), formerly the Texas Commission on Private Security has been in the process of working towards making online license applications and renewals available on the Internet through TexasOnline, the official website of the state of Texas.

In September 2003 we began the process by deploying the renewal of individual registrations on the Internet. As of December 2005, the majority of this agencys business and individual licenses have been made available online. This includes original/initial license applications, renewals, and, for companies, you can even do your Employee Information Updates (EIU) on TexasOnline.

There are a number of reasons why online processing helps your company and the licensee. Here are a few of those reasons:

  • Its a service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and allows application submission even on weekends. Renewal requests can be submitted up through the last day before a license lapses without late fee penalties.

  • You are allowed to register a home address change at the same time as renewing a license.

  • You are able to pay the appropriate license fees using various types of credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover) or by electronic check.

  • A printable receipt is available to you immediately online showing the payment and date/time that you successfully completed the submission.

  • It has guaranteed delivery. The agency gets the application the next working day, meaning no lost applications or lost time in the mail. In the absence of errors requiring manual intervention, the information is automatically integrated into their licensing system so that it can be captured with fewer errors and they can process your applications faster.

We know many of the companies licensed by PSB are already using TexasOnline to speed up business licensing. More than 60% of the business license applications and renewals that have been processed by PSB since September 2005 have come through TexasOnline. I hope your company is not one of the companies missing out on the advantages of using TexasOnline. To encourage your participation we have something new for you.

Now it gets even better

For businesses interacting PSB, not only can you submit your Employee Information Updates (EIU) online, but we have streamlined the payment process for you. The TexasOnline Third Party Pay/Bulk Processing System allows your staff to process multiple business, individual, or EIU online forms and then pay for them all as one financial transaction. This could simplify some of your back office accounting.

Shortly, PSB personnel will begin contacting security companies and will supply the necessary information for them to take advantage of this new feature.

We encourage you to go to www.TexasOnline.com and see all the other information and services that are available online. While there, if you have any questions or suggestions for the PSB online licensing system or any other part of TexasOnline, just click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to send us a quick email message. You can also call Allan Martin (512-463-5973) at the TexasOnline Office of the Texas Department of Information Resources with your suggestions or comments.
