NORTH TEXAS REGION
Kathy McReynolds - President

The North Texas Region is actively planning our fifth annual Law Enforcement and Security Symposium, to be held June 15 at the Radisson Hotel.

We are particularly excited about our main speaker, Gregg Lillyhorn, who will do a presentation on surviving the active shooter. The mayor hopes to attend, and we hope he will also be able to introduce the new Dallas chief of police.

This luncheon gets bigger every year, with participants from various law enforcement agencies throughout the North Texas area, as well as members of ASIS, the Private Security Bureau, Hotel/Motel Security Network and local legislators.

The primary purpose is to promote the partnership of the security industry and law enforcement, to continue to gain respect from each other, and to find solutions to our common issues, primarily the safety of the public.

This event will provide two hours of continuing education to the security industry. Jeff Crilley and Dale Watson will once again emcee the meeting, so I believe a good time as well as some valuable information, will be provided to all who attend.

The event will be sponsored by our friends at El Dorado, and the entire proceeds will go to the Fallen Officers Fund.

Our March meeting should be of great interest to all. We are having consultants from IPS Advisors explain what the new health care bill will mean to owners of private security companies, when the regulations will go into effect, and what actions must be taken now.

We expect a very full house since this will impact all of us. Some questions we hope to have answered include:

• Employer taxes - when and how much.

• Employer penalties - when and how much.

• Large vs. small employers - penalties vs. tax credits vs. subsidies (if any) and when.

• If employees already have other insurance such as military, spouse’s plan, their own individual, etc. can the employer get them to sign a waiver that they don’t want the employer plan or would the employer have to have proof of their other insurance on file and report it, etc. and when.

• Employer contribution requirements if a plan is already in place.

Please join us for lunch at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen at 10248 Lombardy Lane in Dallas the third Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m.
