GULF COAST REGION
Ruben Amaya - President
On Feb. 8, we held our monthly meeting with our guest speaker Pct. 6 Constable Victor Trevino, who has been a very innovative leader, having started many community-based policing programs in his
precinct. Several of the programs he has fostered are now used in other precints, as well as in other parts of the state. His presentation was interesting and informative, and enjoyed greatly by the audience.
Plans are being finalized and the executive board is very busy bringing our Annual Fallen Officer Fundraiser to the finish line May 1. It will be held at Charlie’s House restaurant from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., located at 3320 Broadway in Houston. Their phone number is 713-649-3230.
We are asking each region to join us and help make this our biggest event ever. Raffle tickets are available for a number of awesome items, and may be obtained by calling (713) 824-5594, or emailing me at
ramaya@smithprotective.com. You may also make a donation to the Fallen Officer Fund, c/o the Gulf Coast region. Last year we raised $10,000, and we hope to break that record this year. Your are always welcome. You’ll have a great time!
March 20, Kevin Galloway and myself represented ASSIST at a fundraiser for Officer Jeremy Stover. Stover was shot five times while on duty in Houston, several of those coming from an AK-47-type assault rifle, and lived to tell the tale. Friends and family of Stover came out to help in his time of need, and raised more than $30,000. Commemorative t-shirts from the event will be auction items at the Fallen Officer Fundraiser.
The Gulf Coast Region of ASSIST has monthly meetings, always on the second Tuesday, at the ARAMCO Services Building, located at 9009 West Loop South. Every other month, these meetings are in conjunction with the Houston LEAPS chapter. We are always looking for new members to come join the worthy ASSIST cause and better our profession. Guests are welcome too.
